This exhibition of objects on loan from the Australian Institute of Archaeology (Melbourne), complements the the Ian Potter Museum of Art’s display of the University of Melbourne’s Classics and Archaeology Collection. The selected objects demonstrate the diversity of materials used in early writing in Egypt and Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq), and the range of uses where writing was employed. This exhibition was initiated by Tony Sagona, head of the School of Art History, Cinema, Classics and Archaeology, and developed by Christopher J Davey, director of the Australian Institute of Archaeology.
