Christopher Menz Acting Director

Christopher Menz Acting Director

In August 2011, the Director, Dr Chris McAuliffe, took leave from the Potter and the University of Melbourne to take up the Chair of Australian Studies at Harvard University for the 2011/2012 academic year, a great distinction for both the Potter and the University of Melbourne. During Dr McAuliffe’s absence, until July 2012, the Board has appointed Christopher Menz as Acting Director.

Christopher Menz comes to the Potter with a wealth of knowledge and experience in Australian art museums. His immediate past role was as Director of the Art Gallery of South Australia, during which time he oversaw the extensive development of the collection, the staging of many exhibitions and the production accompanying publications. Previous to that Mr Menz was Senior Curator, Decorative Arts (International) at the National Gallery of Victoria. He has published and lectured extensively on Australian and European decorative arts, notably on the design work of William Morris.
