Dr Chris McAuliffe: Director

Dr Chris McAuliffe was appointed Director of the Ian Potter Museum of Art at the University of Melbourne in August 2000. Prior to that he was a lecturer in the
Department of Fine Arts at the University of Melbourne for ten years. Dr McAuliffe has a long involvement in Australian contemporary art as a curator, historian and commentator. Dr McAuliffe has researched and written extensively in the area of contemporary art, and on the relationship of art to sport, popular music, suburbia and Australian culture. He is a regular panellist on the ABC TV arts program, ‘Critical Mass’. He is the author of Art and Suburbia, 1996 and the editor of See here now: Vizard Foundation Art Collection of the 1990s, 2003. A graduate of the University of Melbourne and of Harvard University, Dr McAuliffe is currently researching the interaction of art and punk rock.
