With no federal arts policy to speak of, dwindling public funding and precarious working conditions, artists have never felt so vulnerable. What are the collective changes that artists, arts workers and institutions can make to transform the arts into a sustainable and equitable sector? Hear from artists, arts advocates and union organisers in a solution-driven discussion about the issues the art sector faces, and how the situation ties in with a broader political agenda.

    Speakers
Megan Evans is an interdisciplinary artist and former Vice President of the Operative Painters and Decorators Union.

David Pledger is a contemporary artist, curator and activist who delivers critique, analysis and provocations of the arts sector.

Timmah Ball is a writer, artist and urban planner of Ballardong Noongar descent. She is the co-creator of Wild Tongue, a compilation of the struggles, joys and privileges of life as a creative practitioner.

Nina Ross is an interdisciplinary artist, a founding member of the Artists’ Committee and the co-creator of Artslog.

    Convenor
Gabrielle de Vietri is a socially engaged artist, a founding member of the Artists’ Committee and the co-creator of Artslog.

Presented in partnership with the Artists Subcommittee. The State of the Union panel series is supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grants Program.
