Albert Tucker, The possessed 1942, oil on plywood, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra. Purchased 1982 © Barbara Tucker
To coincide with our 40th anniversary we will be presenting a series of nine talks on the third Tuesday of the month between March and November 2012. This program of free talks celebrates the rich and diverse exhibition program presented at the Potter.
The talks will focus on a key work in our exhibitions, presented by Potter curatorial staff, university academics and special guest speakers.
The fifth talk in the series is by Dr Anthony White, School of Culture and Communication. Anthony will discuss Albert Tucker’s The Possessed (1942) featured in Inner worlds: portraits and psychology. He will speak about the connections between the work and the artist’s experiences at the Heidelberg Military Hospital during WWII, and how it draws upon the imagery of European avant-garde artists.
NO BOOKING REQUIRED
Inner worlds: portraits and psychology runs from 18 April - 22 July 2012.
This exhibition is supported by the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program, an Australian Government program aiming to improve access to the national collections for all Australians.
